Greenwood Station Easier Access Elevator project

Construction at Greenwood Station is on-going until early 2025. Elevators will be in-service in late 2024 (Pending weather, possible third party union strikes and unforeseen site conditions and events.)
Effective to 3/30/2025 12:00:00 AM

For background information, please visit the project page.

What we are doing and why:

The TTC’s Easier Access Program is making subway stations accessible. The TTC is conducting work at the intersection of Strathmore Boulevard & Linnsmore Crescent to make Greenwood Station accessible in 2024.

The overall project will be conducted in various stages. A Community pre-construction presentation was provided in Fall 2021 and is posted online: www.ttc.ca/greenwoodconstruction

The project will create a barrier-free path from the main entrance to all levels of the station including installation of:

  • Two elevators to access eastbound and westbound platforms
  • Automatic sliding station entry doors
  • Improved signage
  • CCTV – Security cameras along the accessible pathway
  • Public art installation as a part of the TTC Public Art Program

Stage 3 Construction - continues until the end of summer, 2023:

  • Jet grouting, caisson, excavation and other activities will be taking place to build the elevator shafts.
  • Other civil works will continue.
  • A vacuum truck will also be on site as required for safe excavations around existing utilities.
  • A small work zone will be set up on the east side of Linnsmore Crescent (south of Strathmore Boulevard) to divert utilities.
  • Utility Sewer bypass work is ongoing within the larger construction zone until the end of April, 2023 (*dependent on sub-surface site conditions):

2 generators are required to assist with the sewer bypass pump work located within the construction zone. The generators will be in place to provide a continuous supply of power to the equipment and a consistent low hum may be audible (the generators are the quietest model available):

    • The generator on Strathmore Blvd. within the construction zone, is required to be on consistently (24/7) to ensure construction can be completed safely for the duration of this sewer bypass work.
    • The generator on Linnsmore Cres., within the construction zone, operates during the daytime hours to support related daytime activities.

  • Noise and vibration should be expected with this work from the drill rigs and vacuum truck.
  • Construction trucks, equipment and site staff will be present in the general area.
  • Pedestrian detours will be in place.
  • Lane configurations may shift as work progresses.

  • During the closure of the bus loop at Greenwood Station, the 31 Greenwood buses will continue to divert to Coxwell Station via Danforth Avenue and Coxwell Avenue in all service periods.
  • Regular service levels will be maintained.
  • Customers can the access 31 Greenwood Bus from bus stops on Danforth Avenue at Linnsmore Crescent.
  • Access to the station will be maintained throughout construction.
  • Pedestrian detours will be in place.
  • No impacts to subway service on Line 2 – Bloor Danforth.

Local parking:

Street parking will be temporarily reduced in the area of construction.

Residents may park on any licenced street within their permit area. Please see the map of the parking permit area: https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2015/pw/bgrd/backgroundfile-85333.pdf

New temporary parking:
As approved by City Council and in order to temporarily increase parking during construction, City Transportation made temporary changes to allow on-street parking on both sides of some local streets including on Wolverleigh Boulevard. (from east of Linnsmore Crescent to west of Monarch Park Avenue. Parking by permit only from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m.). The City of Toronto has jurisdiction over the right-of-way (ROW).

Noise, vibration and work hours:

Noise, dust and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. Efforts will be made to keep levels to a minimum.

Majority of the work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, and on Saturday after 9 a.m., with work after hours and on Sunday after 9 a.m.  if required. As permitted, some overnight work will be required during the course of this project for safety and efficiency.
